Our team at RISE Fertility understands that it can be difficult to know where to turn with questions about your reproductive health–and that includes family planning.
According to the World Health Organization, family planning services help people have the number of children they want, with as much time as they want between pregnancies. This can be done through education, contraception, and infertility treatment. A family planning clinic specializes in providing these services so that individuals and couples can make informed decisions about their reproductive health.
In practice, you may find that all of these services aren’t available in the same place, so let’s take a look at different types of family planning clinics.
Government-Run Family Planning Clinics
If you do an online search for “family planning clinics,” you’ll probably get results with local government-run family planning clinics that operate under the Family Planning, Access, Care, and Treatment Program (Family PACT). These clinics mostly serve low-income residents and offer services like education, contraception, testing for STIs, sterilization, some cancer screening, and pregnancy testing. The services are free for residents with incomes below 200% of the federal poverty level.
Private or Hospital-Based Family Planning Clinics
Many private and hospital-based family planning clinics typically provide services similar to those of government-run family planning clinics. These clinics usually serve a broader population, but many also offer free services under the Family PACT program to those who qualify. They also may offer additional services including abortion, genetic testing, management of miscarriages, OB/GYN services, and referrals to infertility centers.
Fertility Clinics
Although fertility clinics aren’t always labeled as family planning clinics, beyond education and simple surgical interventions, reproductive endocrinologists at fertility clinics provide advanced fertility diagnostics and treatment unavailable at other types of family planning clinics.
In order to specialize in reproductive endocrinology and infertility, doctors, like RISE’s Dr. Sanaz Ghazal, must complete several years of additional training after becoming an OBGYN.
This advanced training is essential to help patients having difficulty conceiving, need the cause of their infertility diagnosed and treated, want help to preserve their future fertility or need assistance with LGBTQ+ or single-parent family building.
Infertility centers like RISE Fertility can help patients overcome fertility challenges, provide genetic testing and third-party family-building options, and preserve eggs and sperm for future pregnancy.
Family Planning Services at RISE
At RISE Fertility, we offer a variety of services to help you take control of your reproductive health and plan your family. In addition to diagnostic testing and infertility treatments, we offer fertility preservation, LGBTQ+ fertility services, third-party fertility services, and fertility testing to help you make informed choices about your reproductive future.
Fertility Assessment
Whether you’re seeking treatment, exploring fertility preservation options, or simply want to learn about your reproductive potential, everything begins with a fertility assessment. This crucial first appointment gives us a chance to get to know you, talk about your fertility goals, and discuss your medical history in detail.
We’ll do an ultrasound to check your ovarian reserve, and also screen a partner’s sperm for any problems with sperm count, motility, and shape. Depending on your medical history and fertility goals, we may also recommend a full fertility workup to give us information about your hormone levels, potential structural problems (eg. abnormal tissue in the fallopian tubes or uterus), and any genetic diseases that may impact your fertility. Once we have all the information we need, we’ll come up with a treatment plan at our IVF clinic.
