Fertility treatment is something most people never think about needing, so when you’re suddenly faced with the prospect of seeking treatment, it can be hard to know where to start. You likely have many questions, from where you should go for fertility care to treatments available to results you can expect from your treatment.
Fortunately, learning about fertility treatment can help the process feel less intimidating. At RISE Fertility, we want you to feel comfortable and confident about getting the fertility care you need, so we’ve put together a helpful list of what to know when seeking fertility treatment.
There’s No Shame in Seeking Fertility Treatment
It’s important to remember that most of the social stigma surrounding infertility is rooted in misconceptions. The truth is, infertility is a very common problem impacting about one out of every six people worldwide. Struggling with infertility is not a reflection of who you are or anything you did, so you shouldn’t feel ashamed for seeking treatment.
There’s also no shame in seeking treatment to help you preserve your future fertility. There is no “right way” to build a family, and procedures like sperm and egg freezing give you more freedom to have a baby on your own timeline.
At RISE Fertility, you can expect to be treated with compassion and respect from the moment you walk through our doors. Dr. Sanaz Ghazal and the rest of the RISE Fertility team are committed to ensuring our patients always feel heard, valued, and comfortable.

When to See a Fertility Specialist vs. OB/GYN
You may wonder, Can my regular OB/GYN handle this problem, or Do I need to see a fertility specialist? It really depends on what’s prompting you to seek fertility treatment and, in many cases, how long you’ve experienced infertility.
If you’re having trouble conceiving but have only been trying for a few months, your OB/GYN can likely provide guidance about things like how to predict ovulation to improve your chances of conceiving naturally. However, if you’ve been trying to conceive for 12 months or more, or you’re over 35 and have been trying for more than six months, you should seek help from a fertility specialist like Dr. Ghazal.
You should also see a fertility specialist if you’ve suffered multiple miscarriages, have a known medical condition that could impact your ability to conceive or carry a pregnancy, want to pursue LGBTQ+ family-building options, or want to freeze your sperm or eggs.
Both Partners Should Be Evaluated
One of the most common misconceptions about infertility is that it’s a woman’s problem, but the reality is infertility can be male-factor, female-factor, or both.
It’s best to look at infertility as a problem that you both face together, regardless of the underlying cause. Infertility is never anyone’s fault, and the best way to overcome it (in addition to top-notch fertility care) is by supporting one another.
What to Expect From Your First Fertility Appointment
Many people are nervous about their first fertility appointment, and at RISE, we’ll do our best to set your mind at ease. It may help to understand what to expect from your first appointment so you can prepare ahead of time.
First off, know that your initial consultation at RISE will never be rushed. Part of this appointment will simply be a conversation about what brought you to our clinic, your medical history, and your fertility goals. As part of your fertility assessment, we’d also like to do an ultrasound to check your reproductive anatomy and eggs.
You can expect to leave this appointment with a treatment plan and a clear path forward. We’ll likely order some tests to help us further evaluate your fertility, and we can then move forward with your treatment.
Common Fertility Treatments
The type of fertility treatment you need is entirely dependent on your situation. It’s also common for patients to need multiple types of fertility treatments before having a baby, so try not to get discouraged during the process. We’ll always talk to you about why we recommend a particular treatment, and you always get the final say about your treatment.
Some common fertility treatments we offer at RISE include:
- In vitro fertilization (IVF)
- Intrauterine insemination (IUI)
- Egg freezing and fertility preservation
- Genetic testing
- LGBTQ+ fertility care
- Third-party options, such as donor sperm/eggs and working with gestational carriers
Fertility Treatment May Be More Affordable Than You Think
One of the most common reasons people delay getting fertility care is because they believe they can’t afford it. While fertility treatment can be expensive, especially if it’s not covered under your insurance, at RISE we do our best to make treatment as accessible as possible.
From offering custom treatment packages with clear and transparent pricing to accepting multiple forms of payment and offering interest-free financing to qualified patients, we strive to make fertility treatment more affordable. If you’re interested in seeking fertility treatment but are worried about the expense, we encourage you to contact our financial specialist for a confidential consultation.
